Privacy Policy

Learn how Walyro handles your data and protects your privacy

Effective: 23 January 2026Last updated: 12 April 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Walyro ("we", "us", "our") handles information when you use the Walyro macOS application ("App") and our website. The App is distributed via the Mac App Store and is designed to work primarily offline.

1) Key points

  • Walyro works primarily offline. Your wallpapers, library, and settings are stored locally on your Mac.
  • No accounts. No backend. We do not run user accounts and we do not operate servers that store your wallpaper library.
  • No ads. Minimal app analytics. Walyro does not use advertising inside the macOS app, and we do not sell personal information. The App does use limited product analytics to understand feature usage and improve reliability.
  • The website uses analytics and campaign attribution. We use website analytics to understand visits and tagged outbound links to measure CTA performance.
  • Crash reporting is optional. We use Sentry only if you explicitly agree to share diagnostic data.
  • Network use is minimal. The App sends limited product analytics unless you turn that setting off, and it does not send crash/diagnostic data to Sentry unless you opt in.

2) Information we process

A) Data stored on your device (local)

Walyro processes and stores the following locally on your Mac to provide core features:

  • User-added wallpaper files (videos/images) you choose to add.
  • Pre-installed wallpapers shipped with the App.
  • Library data & settings, such as:
    • per-display wallpaper selection,
    • playback settings,
    • app preferences and UI state.

This data is not uploaded to us.

B) Product analytics

The App uses limited product analytics through PostHog to help us understand feature usage, onboarding flow, and stability trends. We design this analytics stream to be low-profile and focused on aggregated product learning rather than advertising.

This may include:

  • app version and basic device/software context such as macOS version,
  • anonymous feature usage events such as onboarding completion or wallpaper setup actions,
  • high-level interaction and reliability signals that help us improve the product.

We do not use this analytics data for advertising, we do not sell personal information, and you can disable app analytics in the App settings.

C) Diagnostic data (only with your consent)

If you opt in to diagnostics/crash reporting, the App may send certain information to Sentry to help us understand and fix crashes and stability issues. This may include:

  • crash stack traces and error messages,
  • app version and basic device/software information (e.g., macOS version, device model),
  • timestamps and diagnostic context related to the crash.

We do not use Sentry data for advertising, and we do not sell this information.

If you do not opt in, Walyro does not send crash/diagnostic reports to Sentry.

D) Website analytics and outbound link attribution

When you visit our website, we may collect website usage information through Google Analytics, such as page views, referrers, approximate device and browser details, and interactions with key calls to action.

We also attach campaign parameters (such as UTM tags) to outbound links for destinations like our waitlist form, social profiles, and future App Store pages so we can understand which placements drive interest.

E) Information you provide to us

If you contact us (e.g., by email), we will receive the information you share such as your email address and the content of your message.

3) How we use information

We use information to:

  • operate the App and its features on your device,
  • measure aggregated product usage and improve onboarding, feature quality, and reliability,
  • measure website traffic and outbound CTA performance,
  • provide support and respond to your requests,
  • improve reliability and fix issues (via optional Sentry diagnostics, if you consent).

4) How we share information

We share information only in these limited cases:

  • Service provider (PostHog), for limited in-app product analytics.
  • Service provider (Sentry), only if you opt in to diagnostics/crash reporting.
  • Service provider (Google Analytics), for website analytics and reporting.
  • Service provider (Youform), if you choose to join our waitlist through the hosted form.
  • Legal reasons, if required to comply with applicable law or to protect rights, safety, and security.
  • Business transfer, if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale (where required, we will provide notice).

We do not sell personal information.

5) Data retention

  • Local wallpapers, library, and settings: remain on your Mac until you delete them or uninstall the App.
  • In-app product analytics: retained according to our PostHog project settings for product analysis and trend reporting.
  • Website analytics data: retained according to our Google Analytics settings.
  • Sentry diagnostic data (if enabled): retained for a limited period as configured in our Sentry project settings and as needed for troubleshooting.
  • Support communications: retained as long as reasonably necessary to address your request.

6) Security

We apply reasonable safeguards appropriate to the nature of the data. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we aim to minimize collection, keep app analytics limited in scope, and restrict crash diagnostics to users who explicitly opt in.

7) Your choices

You can:

  • disable app analytics at any time in the App settings,
  • enable or disable diagnostic/crash reporting at any time in the App (where provided),
  • remove wallpapers and reset your library from within the App,
  • uninstall the App to remove local data (subject to macOS behavior),
  • enable or disable launch at login ("Login Item") in macOS settings (this does not share your personal data with us).

To request deletion of support communications, contact us (see section 10).

8) Children's privacy

Walyro is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

9) Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date and provide additional notice if required.
